Jan Pruit was born in Beloit, Kan., and grew up on a farm six miles north of Barnard, the original location of the Wear Ranch, which was established in the early 1800s for raising carriage horses.

Pruitt attended high school in Lincoln, Kan., then received an associate’s degree from Hutchinson Community College. At Fort Hays State University, he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education and administration. Pruitt taught and coached from the junior high to the junior college level for ten years in western Kansas and in Hutchinson.

Pruitt came to KFSA twenty years ago. He provides property and casualty insurance for customers in east and southeast Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.

His family’s ties to the agricultural industry are multigenerational. Both his father and brother have been involved in the ag field all of their lives—his brother once worked for co-ops and now sells feeds for Hubbard Feeds, a national company.

Pruitt and his wife, Karla, have two sons: J.D., who will graduate from Kansas State University in May 2010, and J.C., a first year student at Hutchinson Community College. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, and playing and watching sports of all kinds.
